‘Gandhi’ pitches for honesty in Delhi civic polls

To drive home the point that corruption-free politics is at the heart of the progress of India, Mahesh Chaturvedi has been invoking one of India's biggest icons — Mahatma Gandhi — for the past one decade.
A resident of Bhopal, Chaturvedi had arrived in the Capital with his mission to raise awareness about the need for choosing candidates with a clean image and record. He has been camping at the Jamnagar House, where nomination process is under way for the upcoming MCD polls.
Dressed like the Mahatma, he has been exhorting the candidates to remember Gandhi's mantra of serving the poor.
"People are not good or bad. It is their ideology. Gandhi tried to change the system by empowering the people at the bottom of pyramid," Chaturvedi said. The 60-year-old Chaturvedi said he would also go from door to door to request Delhiites to vote for honest candidates in the April 15 polls.
