“The government has announced a National Manufacturing Policy on October 25, 2011 with the objective of raising, within a decade, the share of manufacturing in GDP to 25 per cent and creation of 10 crore jobs. The policy encourages the setting-up of National Investment and Manufacturing Zones (NIMZs) across the country,” finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said in his budget speech.

Last year, the government cleared the National Manufacturing Policy (NMP), paving the way for setting up of such large townships.
