Giving this information, principal secretary (Home) Alok Sinha said the ADG (Railway) would also conduct a meeting of the officials concerned every week to strengthen security measures on running trains.
At the same time, the system of exchanging intelligence between the GRP and the Railway security agencies was also being strengthened, he said, adding strict vigil would be maintained on 10 routes. Sinha said a high-level meeting of senior officials of Delhi police and railway authorities would also be convened soon to strengthen security measures on trains passing through UP. The State Government has decided to provide modern equipment, including digital video camera, hidden camera, LCD projector etc to the GRP. A sum of Rs 12.70 lakh had been sanctioned for the purpose, he said, adding a sum of Rs 25 lakh had also been sanctioned to set up bomb detection and disposal teams.
Sinha said ADG Railway BK Bhalla had been asked to send a comprehensive proposal incorporating measures to strengthen security and solve day-to-day problems. Bhalla had constituted six special teams to check smuggling of arms on trains, he said. Significantly, the Government has claimed that crime on running trains has come down by 30 percent last year vis-à-vis figures of the last few years.
