Gunmen kill nine policemen in Iraq

Nine Iraqi police officers were killed when insurgents detonated a series of bombs in the northern city of Mosul.

Nine Iraqi police officers were killed on Friday when insurgents detonated a series of bombs Friday as fierce fighting erupted in the northern city of Mosul, a police official said.

Three car bombs and three roadside bombs were triggered in the city, while mortar shells were fired at police posts, he said.

"Up until now nine police have died, including a major, but it's still going on," he added.
