On Thursday, Konwar, as the chancellor of state universities, appointed Arvind Kumar, vice-chancellor of Vinoba Bhave University in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh, as the new Magadh University vice-chancellor.

Kumar is facing a vigilance probe for alleged financial irregularities. The inquiry was set up by former Jharkhand governor K. Shankar Narain on the complaint of a former member of the university panel.

Earlier, Konwar appointed Subhash Prasad Sinha as the vice-chancellor of Veer Kuer Singh University in Ara.

Although a Raj Bhawan notification claimed that Kumar’s appointment was made in consultation with the government, HRD minister Hari Narayan Singh said, “The government couldn’t submit its panel, as the governor never asked for it.”
