Hike in fuel prices will only add to people’s existing woes
This refers to the report Pay more for petrol, diesel (February 27). The UPA came to power the second time around in the name of furthering the cause of the aam aadmi. However, it now seems that the interest of the common man lies at the bottom of the government’s agenda.

However, it now seems that the interest of the common man lies at the bottom of the government’s agenda. The government should have found a responsible alternative to provide relief to oil companies rather than adding another burden to the aam aadmi’s shrinking purse. People already have to deal with rising prices and the hike in fuel prices will only make matters worse.

Stop ground water removal
The report Massive quake kills 147 in Chile (February 28) reveals that despite scientific advancements in the field of geology, we have not been able to invent any device that can save lives by predicting such calamities. One of the ways by which the damage caused by earthquakes can be minimised is by reducing the consumption of ground-water, which serves as a cushion for the earth’s crust.

Question of ethics or business
It was quite shocking to see Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) owner Shah Rukh Khan team up with Ashok Todi, the Lux Cozi owner, an accused in the Rizwanur Rehman murder case of 2007. Although the verdict is due on the case, it’s highly disturbing to see Khan, a highly respected public figure, using Lux Cozi to sponsor the KKR team. Following protests, Khan announced through the media recently that the KKR and Lux Cozi tie-up was being “put on hold”. However, since February 28, the media have been abuzz with KKR and Lux Cozi endorsements. It must be said that if this is a purely business decision in which ethics have no role to play, KKR should be prepared to lose the support of cricket-lovers in this part of the country.
