HE PEDDLES religious books and claims to be a member of ISKCON, but now he has been accused of harassing a college girl and has been arrested by the ‘We Care for You’ wing of the police today.

The accused, Mahamurti Das, in his early 50s, first accosted the girl a couple of days back near her college and asked for direction to a nearby temple.

The young girl, taking him to be a holy man, directed him to the temple. They got talking and Das then offered to give her lift in his two-wheeler to her house, which she accepted hesitantly.

The next day he was again there near the college and tried to get cosy with her. He invited her to accompany her to Ujjain to see the ISKCON temple, and also made some lewd comments which offended the girl. She told her parents, who then informed the police about the developments.

A trap was laid and the girl invited him near Bansi Plaza. The moment he came, the police team nabbed him. Unfazed by his arrest, the accused kept on touting his ‘holy’ credentials and said he was a married man who lived with his wife and two children at 249, Summer Park.

A native of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, he claims that he has been staying in Indore for the past four years. He said his work was to distribute the holy Bhagwat Gita among the people and inspire people to join ISKCON.
