Sadhu Singh, husband of Neelam, had initially lodged a complaint of his wife's murder against unidentified persons after the incident but the gruesome manner in which the murder was committed led to police's suspicion on him.

Later, during the investigation, Singh accepted his crime and told police that he had beaten his wife with his friends as he suspected her of infidelity.

Judge Arun Kumar of Additional district and sessions court today termed the murder as a rarest of rare case and sent the accused to the gallows. Two accused were acquitted during the trial in want of evidence.

Neelam was murdered on August 18, 1994.

All witnesses had turned hostile during the trial but the court relied on the circumstantial evidence to reach the conclusion.
