While elder sister Maushmi Udeshi is a well-known model and has made her debut in LIPSKiss of Death, younger sister Sonal is making an impact on the small tube. Similar in many ways, however, these two sisters have set their own priorities. Sonal discloses, “While Didi is focused on the big screen, I had made up my mind to excel in all the mediums. Be it TV or big screen, I gradually started my journey by doing music videos and lots of pilots (smiles).”

Having bagged two major serials on DD, Sonal is making her move slowly, but steadily. “May be because I am not from the industry. Acting is something that I have always loved from my school days.

And I don’t regret a bit for not completing my graduation (laughs) as I dropped out after my FY B.Com,” she confesses.  Indeed a rare quality that attracts you to this young stunner!

Her first major TV commercial was for ‘Western Union Money Transfer’ and ever since she has to her repertoire two really good music videos, two serials and a Tamil movie.

She discloses, “One was Musafir Ranjha and another one was Manisha Agarwal’s Teri Chahat Mein…. Luckily I was noticed well in these two videos and appreciated for depicting a typical Indian woman.”

Currently busy shooting for Kyun Apne Hue Paraye on DD (Mondays-Tuesdays at 8.30 pm) and Lal Kothi Alvida on DD (Tuesdays at 9.30 pm), Sonal enthuses, “In Kyun Apne…I play the main lead opposite a new guy Ayush. My character name is Shraddha and I play Kulbhushan Kharbanda’s daughter.

The serial deals with the trauma of a daughter, played by me, who gets married and moves to a new home.” So is it another saas-bahu saga?

She defends, “No! It is unlike other serials because it shows how people who influence her life, treat her before and after marriage ? The journey of a naïve girl who becomes a brave woman after the marriage has been beautifully depicted in Kyun Apne Hue Paraye.”

In Lal Kothi Alvida, Sonal plays the second parallel lead along with Parikshit Sahani (main lead), who also happens to be the co-producer and director as well. Sonal informs, “LalKothi is set up in post-1947 era.

The plot revolves around the Lal Kothi and how the fight to own it leads to all the chaos in the family. I play Shalini in the serial, who depicts true Indian values, while the lead heroine has a Western upbringing. How I change her with my Indianness is what Shalini is all about.”

Does she fear of being typecast as a TV heroine? Sonal confidently replies, “I have already bagged a Tamil film titled Love Story with Santosh, who is a new guy. The film is being directed by Raj Mohan, who has to his credit near about dozen Malayalam films.

Love Story is his first Tamil film. To be honest, if one is confident about his/her art and passion, then one can achieve great heights. I strongly believe so because even Shah Rukh Khan started from TV and now he is known as the Badshah of Bollywood (smiles)!” A die-hard SRK fan, Sonal's favourite film is Dil To Pagal Hai.

While Sonal is surely making her impact on television, she attributes her success and confidence to her sister Maushmi, who guides her in each and every thing. “I just cannot think of doing anything without her. We are more close than a buddy buddy thing,” exclaims the pretty face.

What one different quality separates the two? She concludes, “I guess I am more Indian and she is the exotic one (smiles)!”
