The Indian Air Force (IAF) recently conducted a two-day air exercise to orient itself to combat in hilly terrain. "The IAF is capable of providing armed forces fighting insurgents with air support as and when necessary," Air Command Air Marshal FH Major said while taking over as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Air Command (EAC) in Shillong.

The two-day exercise involving MIG-21 fighter jets was conducted at the Lengpui civil airfield in Mizoram. "Air support, however, involves greater risk and would be used judiciously," Major said. The air marshal is slated to undertake a two-day visit to various air bases under the EAC along with army bases in the eastern sector, from December 5.
