The irrigation department released water from both the dams yesterday resulting in flooding in tribal-dominated Igatpuri tehsil where water was flowing over a bridge at Kaluste village, disrupting vehicular traffic to 20 villages.

The district, comprising 15-tehsils has recorded 5444.30 mm rains till July 23, official sources said on Friday.

Darna and Gangapur dams, having a capacity of 7149 amd 5630 mcft each has breached the half level mark, they said.

However, farmers, who were eagerly awaiting for a good spell after fears of less than average rainfall were happy for their Kharif crops.
