Mathai Kunjukunju, 71, was left stranded in Bahrain after his Bahraini sponsor moved to Lebanon taking away his passport, according to a report in the Gulf Daily News newspaper.

He has finally been given an emergency outpass by the Indian embassy in Bahrain. Fines amounting to 450 Bahraini dinars imposed on him for his illegal stay have also been waived.

At a farewell party accorded to him by the Bahrain chapter of the Ranny St Thomas College Association Alumni and the Ranny Overseas Souhruda Sangam (ROSS), he was given 150 Bahraini dinars and an air ticket to Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
