Members of India's Border Security Force and the Bangladesh Rifles fired mortars and shelled each other for nearly three hours near Kinor Khal, a border village in the northeastern Indian state of Assam, said DN Dutt, the state's police chief.
One of the mortars hit a resident's home in Kinor Khal, killing two women there, Dutt said.
It wasn't immediately known if there were any casualties on the Bangladesh side.
