Iron rod from Chennai metro construction site kills techie

In a fatal accident at an under-construction metro site in Chennai, an engineer riding on a two wheeler lost his life when a huge iron rod crashed on him.

A 10-feet long iron rod killed a 30-year-old engineer, Giridhar, when it crashed on him while he was riding a two wheeler below an under-construction metro station on the Chennai airport road.

The accident took place near the Officers Training Academy (OTA) Metro station at around 8 am. A resident of Madipakkam nearby, Giridhar was working in an IT company in the vicinity.

Police has detained two persons working with the metro construction company.

This is not the first accident at Metro construction sites. Over the last three years, four persons have died in accidents at metro project construction sites, when girders or scaffolding or cranes collapsed.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited officials have said an inquiry would be carried out into the incident.
