Ever thought you’d see Hollywood beauties Scarlett Johansson or Anne Hathaway dressed like a village belle, dancing around trees in India?
Now you just might.
Rumours are rife that Bollywood director Shirish Kunder has been in talks with both the actresses for the lead role in his next project, Alien Sahib.
When contacted, Kunder confirmed considering Hollywood biggies, but said, “It’s too early to take any names. Yes, I am in talks with major Hollywood agents. As of now, nothing has been finalised. We will share the news soon.”
About the character he is considering casting one of the actresses for, Kunder says, “She’s a sweet girl, who comes to India with John (Abraham) and gets stuck in a drama in a village in India where things start to happen… there are aliens and UFOS, and eventually she becomes a real gaon ki chhori. So essentially I’m looking for an actress who’ll look cute as a gaon ki chhori and really take on that part.”
Johansson, best known for her role in Lost in Translation, and Hathaway, who has a huge fan following for her role as a lost princess in Princess Diaries, seem a shoe in for that role.
A co-production with actor John Abraham, Kunder says the movie will go on the floors mid-2010. He reiterates, however, that it not a Sci-Fi film. “It’s a drama set in India, but something that could happen anywhere. John and I intend to make something like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, which anyone in the world can relate to.”
He adds that the role of the villain will also be essayed by a major Hollywood actor, but remains mum on who it might be. Reports suggest that Kunder and Abraham are to fly down to Los Angeles in the coming weeks to finalise the deal.
Kunder, however, says, “Yes, that’s the idea, but I shall do it after I get free from Tees Maar Khan.”
