Kolaveri Di is making its presence felt in an unlikely arena — the Punjab poll battlefield.

The People's Party of Punjab (PPP) has created a Punjabi version of the smash hit number, titled Saade Dilan Vich Vas Gayi Hai PPP (PPP has found a place in our hearts). The song has been written by noted comedian and PPP leader Bhagwant Mann and sung by Mann and Dilkhush. Party chief Manpreet Badal has lent his voice to two couplets.

"The young generation does not listen to long speeches; even in classes they listen to a teacher who delivers lectures in an entertaining manner. Besides, music has always played a prominent role in revolutions. Kalam di maar talwar naalon tej hundi hai (The pen is mightier than the sword)," said Mann.

The song starts with Manpreet reciting 'Ki hoya je patjhad aayi' (So what if it's autumn?), written by noted poet Surjit Patar, and has lines such as 'Hoke mast malang chalange, Manpreet de sang chalange' (we will walk with Manpreet), 'PPP sacheya bandeyan di party hai' (Ours is a party of truthful people) and 'Chak deyange phatte 30 January nu' (we will call the shots on the polling day).

Targeting rival parties, the song says, 'Jhoothi Congress nale Akali, Manpreet di soch nirali' (Both Congress and Akalis are liars, Manpreet's vision is different). The video has shots of Manpreet, Mann and other party leaders during rallies and other political functions. The video shows Manpreet driving a scooter in a village.

Mann said the song was conceptualised, written and recorded in just a few hours and uploaded on Youtube on January 1. "It has been barely 24 hours since the song was uploaded, and we have already got a great response. My phone has not stopped ringing since then," he said.

"In the song, we have made no personal comments against rival parties or put their pictures since we believe in healthy politics and highlighting our own qualities," he added.

Mann added that although Manpreet had not seen the final product so far, he was also happy with the response. "He trusts me completely and is always supportive of my ideas. If my talent and name can help my party, I will be more than happy," he said.

The video is on Youtube under the name, 'Kolaveri PPP Punjabi version' and is also available on Mann's Facebook page.
