Man gets death for rape, murder of 75-yr-old

A 22-year-old man was on Tuesday sentenced to death by a Haryana court for raping and killing a 75-year-old woman.
The victim had gone for a walk in the afternoon at Sawant Khera village in Dabwali subdivision of Sirsa district on February 11, 2011, when Nikka Singh dragged her into the mustard fields. After raping her, he strangled her to death with her salwar and fled from the spot.
The victim’s family started looking for her when she did not return home by evening. They found her naked body in the fields.
Describing Nikka as a “savage” who had also attempted to rape two other women, Sirsa additional district and sessions judge Neelima Shanglay said, “The rape and cold-blooded murder of a woman, who was of grandmother’s age of the accused, falls in the rarest of the rare case.”
The judge said Nikka's “existence on earth is a grave danger to society”.
