Meghalaya political parties concerned over Nepali influx

Political parties in Meghalaya voiced concern over Nepali influx in the state, saying it would affect the indigenous Khasi community.
Political parties -- both in power and in the opposition in Meghalaya - on Tuesday voiced concern over the influx of Nepali nationals in the state as, they said, it would affect the indigenous Khasi community.

Members of the ruling Congress and Opposition Meghalaya Democratic Party, United Democratic Party and Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement in Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) discussed threadbare the Indo-Nepal treaty of 1950 to solve the problem.
Chief Executive Member Pryst One Tynsong said the KHADC members were deeply concerned over the matter and a copy of the treaty would be obtained by the council from the government for a thorough knowledge, before taking it up with the state authorities.
