The blast occurred at the Awas Vikas locality, a residential cluster for economic weaker section in Hanspuram.
The injured were identified as Sarvesh Pandey, a rickshaw puller, his wife Neelu, and their sons Deepak and Samrat. Nearby houses were also damaged in the blast.
The blast was so powerful that the roof of the house came down and the iron doors landed several metres away. A forensic team reached the site around 1 am and collected samples.
Initially it was believed that the cooking gas cylinder in the house exploded. But police soon found the cylinder intact with gas still.
"The injured have been sent to hospital for treatment," said Raj Dev, station officer Naubasta. "We want to question Sarvesh first about how the explosion took place," he said.
This comes two weeks after a similar explosion killed two persons and brought down in Coolie Bazar.
It was initially mistaken as a cylinder blast. Later, after forensic examination, it turned out that the blast was caused by explosives packed in an iron container.
