MNNITians make a mark at IIT-K fest

AFTER EXEMPLARY performances at the technical and cultural fests of BHU-IT and IIT-Kanpur, the MNNITians have delivered yet another dazzling display at the three-day annual tech fest? Techkriti-2006 of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) held between February 23 and 26 at its sprawling campus.

AFTER EXEMPLARY performances at the technical and cultural fests of BHU-IT and IIT-Kanpur, the MNNITians have delivered yet another dazzling display at the three-day annual tech fest— Techkriti-2006 of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) held between February 23 and 26 at its sprawling campus.

The 20-member contingent of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) students, led by a faculty member of the Mathematics department Pitam Singh, participated in various events like Gearloose, Prayog, SCIMATEX, On-the-Spot Programming among others and managed to bag cash awards to the tune of Rs 13,200 and also qualified for the finals of the most challenging event of the fest– Spot Programming.

Expressing happiness over the performance of the students, chiefly belonging to the IInd year BTech batches, President of MNNIT Student Activity Centre, Prof Rakesh Narain said that full credit goes to the efforts of the students who after overcoming the recent ordeals of the Sirsi mishap showcased their dazzling performance at IIT-K. He said that efforts are being made to enhance the participation of students in co-curricular activities.

The team comprising of Navanshu Tripathi (Mechanical Engineering), K Kalyan (Mechanical Engineering) and M Dhananjay (Mechanical Engineering) out classed the other teams in the event 'Gearloose' and bagged the first prize. The team was awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000 for their efforts.

It was basically a gadget making event in which students  had to design and produce a gadget suitable to perform a pre-defined problem. The problems put them included: Mechanical conversion of digital signals into their corresponding analogue output, Utilising the energy of the swinging pendulum in raising a bucket and a currency note adder. The winning MNNIT team participated in the digital to analogue converter event.

Another team of MNNIT comprising of Paridhi Mishra of BTech (IT) and Garima Agarwal BTech (Computer Science) was adjudged runners up in the event –Prayog and won a cash prize of Rs 1200. "The event had  a preliminary selection round which included a quiz with several questions, some with video demonstrations of an interesting phenomenon etc, and the teams were  required to submit written answers," informed Paridhi Mishra.

Three teams of MNNIT including— Team One: Paridhi Mishra (2nd year Information Technology, Garima Garwal (2nd year computer science), Rohit Batra (2nd year Information Technology, Team Two: Chandrashekhar  (2nd year Computer Science), Rohit Gupta (2nd year Computer Science), Shashikant Sharma (2nd year Computer Science) and Team 3: Prateek Bansal (2nd year Information Technology), Abhishek Bansal (2nd year Information Technology), Manish Kumar (2nd year Information Technology)— put up impressive performance in the In the event– Soft Corner (graphics and  animation), the team comprising of Vikram Gupta, Arun Jyoti Dori, Naresh Pratap and Kheljeet Singh (all third year students of Computer Science and engineering department) bagged the third prize and were awarded a cash prize of Rs 2000. In this event, the  students were asked to design an e-card using flash.
