There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, seismic officials said.
The quake at 10.33 am was centred 110 km north-east of Islamabad in Hazara division, officials said.
Tremors were felt in Islamabad, Muzaffarabad and Balakot and Manshera districts of North-Western Frontier Province (NWFP).
More than 2,000 aftershocks, some of them more than 6-magnitude intensity, have been recorded since the 7.6-magnitude earthquake in October 8 last year, which wreaked havoc in Kashmir and NWFP and killed more than 75,000 people.
