Erstwhile Bollywood starlet and  underworld don Abu Salem's companion, Monica Bedi, who was sentenced recently to five-year rigorous imprisonment in a fake passport case in Hyderabad, was taken to Bhopal on Thursday to face trial in a similar case there.

A 15-member police team, including women constables, accompanied her when she left for Bhopal by the super fast Andhra Pradesh Express.

Ever since her extradition along with Abu Salem from Portugal in November last year, Monica Bedi has been lodged in the State prison for women in Hyderabad.

The CBI special court convicted her and sentenced her to a five-year jail term for fraudulently obtaining a passport in a fictitious name of Sana Malik Kamal from the Hyderabad Regional Passport Office in August 2001.

Abu Salem and his second wife Sabeena Azmi had also fraudulently obtained passports from RPO, Hyderabad in the name of Ranil Malik Kamal and Neha Asif Jaffrey.

The state Prison for women had received a prisoner transit warrant issued by a Bhopal Court recently. She is expected to remain in a Bhopal jail for two months for facing trial in the fake passport case registered against her at Koh-i-fiza police station in November 2001, according to informed sources.

Bedi had allegedly obtained passport in the name of Fouzia Usman while Abu Salem and his first wife Sameera Jumani had secured passports in the name of Danish Baig and Rubina Baig from the Regional Passport office, Bhopal.

Earlier she was taken to Bhopal by the police on December 5 last year and was interrogated by the local police for two days before being shifted back to Hyderabad to face the trial here.
