Moradabad: 12 killed, 4 injured after passenger van collides with truck

Twelve persons, including 10 women, were on Sunday killed and four others injured after a speeding passenger van in which they were travelling collided with a truck on Dingarpur-Kundarki road, police said on Sunday.

Twelve persons, including 10 women, were on Sunday killed and four others injured after a speeding passenger van in which they were travelling collided with a truck on Dingarpur-Kundarki road, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place in the morning when the van, carrying mostly women, was heading to Bareilly for a sacred gathering (satsang) when the speeding truck loaded with straw collided with the speeding van, police said.

Out of the 16 people travelling in the van, 12 were killed on the spot including the vehicle's driver, and four were injured. Among the killed, 10 were women aged between 35-50, circle officer, Bellary, RP Singh said.

The injured were rushed to the hospital and their condition are stated to be stable. All the victims belonged to Baduri village of Moradabad, they added.

The truck has been seized and it is registered from Dingarpur village. The driver of the truck will be arrested soon, police added. The bodies have been sent for post mortem and the investigation is on in the matter, Singh added.
