The accident took place around 6.30am when the labourers attempted to cross the track while repair work was underway, the government railway police (GRP) said. The four misjudged the speed of the oncoming train, according to officials.

“Soon after the accident, the authorities were informed and they were rushed to a nearby hospital, however they were declared dead,” said Rupali Ambure, deputy commissioner of police, GRP

The Dadar GRP has registered case of accidental deaths and are investigating the incident. The statement of the motorman of the train that hit the labourers will also be recorded.
