Mumbai undeterred by V-Day threats
Despite the opposition from some political parties and outfits to Valentine Day celebrations, gift shops in Mumbai on Saturday doing a brisk business with people ranging from college students to married couples flocking them.
Despite the opposition from some political parties and outfits to Valentine Day celebrations, gift shops in Mumbai on Saturday doing a brisk business with people ranging from college students to married couples flocking them.
"Lovers do not care about some people opposing the day which celebrates love. Since the last week we have seen a sudden rush," Ram Prasad, Area Sales Manager, (Maharashtra and Goa), Archies Gallery told PTI.
Owner of a well-known gift shop in South Mumbai said, "There are chances of political parties disrupting the V-day celebrations across, but the lovers also look determined to celebrate the day in their own way."
"College students and even married couples are coming to buy gifts for their partners, parents and friends."
Security has been stepped up at almost all gift and departmental shops to avoid any untoward incident.
"We have been asked to keep an eye on the activities happening in and around gift shops. There are chances of political parties attacking such shops since they consider the event as against our culture," said a Constable stationed at one of the renowned gift shops.
"Around 8 to 10 Constables each are stationed at all our 60 outlets across the metropolis as we do not want to risk our stores and customers' safety," Prasad said.
