New institute in Pune to start residential course for drivers

Maharashtra’s first drivers’ training institute and research centre, which is shaping up at Indapur near Pune, will soon conduct a month-long residential training programme for drivers.
Spread over about 11.5 acres of land, the institute will have its own testing track and will also be equipped with simulators.
The state does not have a single institute dedicated to driving training at present.
Before getting a driving licence from the Regional Transport Office, most drivers learn at motor training schools, but many complain that these lack infrastructure and good trainers.
This new institute has been developed by the Western India Automobile Association (WIAA), one of the largest and oldest automobile associations in the country. “Civil work for the development of the institute has already started and is expected to be completed in the next nine months,” said Nitin Dossa, executive chairman, WIAA. The project is expected to cost around Rs 20 crore.
