The Centre on Wednesday made it easier for Chinese businessmen, professionals and students to get Indian visa and extend their stay in the country. The new rules will also make it easier for Chinese citizens to extend business and employment visas.

The changes made were a follow-up to the memorandum of understand (MoU) signed between India and People's Republic of China on June 23, 2003. "The modified guidelines issued on Wednesday will ensure easier movement of genuine Chinese businesspersons, professionals, students and their dependents in India," a government release said on Thursday.

The release added: "the objective is to further streamline the visa procedures for obviating the delay in processing of applications for granting or extending Indian visa to Chinese nationals."

The modified guidelines also aim at enhancing the relatively short validity, particularly of business and employment visas and their subsequent extensions within the scope of the MoU.
