The victim had been working as a domestic help at the software engineer's house in Naraina Vihar for the past two months. She has alleged that the incident took place on February 15. "Her family registered a case on Sunday evening, three days after the incident," said a senior police officer.

The accused had come to India on February 6. His parents, who live in Naraina Vihar's A Block, have claimed that the girl was just trying to extort money from them by levelling the allegation of rape. The accused had returned to Atlanta on Sunday.

Medical examination of the victim at the city's Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital has confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted. The victim has also alleged that the accused had threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed anything about the incident to anyone.

The victim, who was offered the job by a placement agency, belongs to Jharkhand. She had come to Delhi two months ago. A case of rape has been registered at the Naraina Vihar police station.
