Officers suspended following train accident

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Allahabad SK Agarwal and Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Sr DME), Delhi Vineet Singh have been suspended following the collision between 4724 Kalindi Express and 2452 Shramshakti Express at Metwali railway station near Tundla junction, around 25 kilometres from Agra on Saturday, reports HT Correspondent.

Besides, both the drivers of Kalindi Express— Ram Praksh and Satpal Singh Yadav of Northern Railway zone — have also been placed under suspension pending an inquiry into the mishap.

It is worth mentioning that the accident comes within a fortnight of two other 'rear collision train accidents' that too took place on a Saturday— January 2— in which Gorakhdham Express rammed into stationary Prayagraj Express near Kanpur and Lichchhvi Express rammed into Magadh Express near Etawah.

Confirming the suspensions, Additional Director General (ADG, PR), Indian Railways, New Delhi Anil Saxena said, “ It is a strong message to the officials that they should carry out their duties and responsibilities properly.”

He said that earlier too two train accidents had taken place in the Allahabad division being headed by SK Agarwal and the Union Railway Minister viewed the latest accident very seriously.
