"Rahul Gandhi has provided a ray of hope by proposing a separate development authority for Bundelkhand, which would be a step towards fulfilling our long overdue demand," Raja Bundela, the President of Bundelkhand Mukti Morcha, said.
Bundela, also a film and TV personality, said a separate authority will help in checking suicides and exodus that are common in the backward region, hit by recurring drought.
He lashed out at political leaders saying that despite making several promises, no one took any concrete initiative to usher in development in Bundelkhand whereas states like Jharkhand, Uttaranchal and Chhattisgarh are developing as they got a separate statehood.
"Political parties have so far exploited Bundelkhand and its people. Chief minister Mayawati made several announcements during elections campaigns but what she has done for the area is known to everyone. Madhya Pradesh government too has done nothing for the region," Bundela said.
He said that the Morcha will conduct meetings and seminars to create awareness for the cause and submit a memorandum to Mayawati in this regard.
