Replying to questions from members in the Tamil Nadu Assembly in this regard, he said if Andhra Pradesh continued to go ahead with the construction work, his government would resort to legal action.

He also demanded central intervention in the matter.

"Such an act on an inter-state river could disturb the cordial relationship between the two states," Karunanidhi said.

"The dispute was sub-judice as the matter was before the Supreme court," he said.

It was a ‘deceitful act´ by Andhra Pradesh to go ahead with the project, when the expert committee constituted by the Central Water Commission had not taken any final decision and Union Environment and Forest Ministry yet to clear it, he said.

“If Andhra Pradesh goes ahead with the project, it only means that it has no faith in national integration’, he said, adding, he still believed that the neighbouring state would not indulge in any such act.
