Village women were dragged onto the streets, youths were assaulted and even the infirm and kids weren?t spared in the operation. The police also ransacked a number of houses and arrested altogether 61 persons.

A team led by SP (rural) Ratan Srivastava conducted a raid and the cops virtually ran amock. Village women were dragged onto the streets, youths were assaulted and even the infirm and kids weren’t spared in the operation. The police also ransacked a number of houses and arrested altogether 61 persons.
Slamming the police action, the CPI has demanded a high-level probe into the incident. While the Congress sent a fact-finding mission to the village, which dispatched its report to the MoS for Home Shri Prakash Jaiswal, who in turn has sought a detailed report from the State Home Secretary on the incident.
Several social organisations also voiced their concern over police brutality and demanded action against the guilty. Such was the terror that it instantly led to mass exodus not only from Kapli but also from adjoining villages. The scribes who were on the spot to cover ‘police vengeance’ were also assaulted and chased away by the cops. A day after police action, Kapli was bustling with politicians offering solace to the victimised villagers.
BJP’s Prem Lata Katiyar visited the village and assured the villagers that all possible efforts would be made to bring the guilty to book.
CPI leader Arvind Raj Swaroop said the incident showcased the coldheartedness of the city police and demanded a high-level inquiry to punish the guilty cops.
The Congress (Human Rights Cell) has condemned the action and said the police was beyond control of anyone.
The Congress vice-president Islam Ansari said party leaders would submit a memorandum to the DIG (range) for stringent action against the accused.
Leaders of Bharti Manav Kalyan Samaj Sevi Sansthan Vandana Sharma, Nirmal Kumar Verma, Dr Islam, Parath Singh, Arvind Srivastava have sent a written complaint to the Human Rights Commission demanding a probe into the incident.
