Immediate relief required
SENIOR BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Kalraj Mishra said here on Monday that the power situation in the State was taking a turn for the worse.
“While the people have been left to the mercy of God, both the State and the Centre are busy trading charges against each other on this issue,” Mishra told Hindustan Times soon after his arrival in the city.
He said that the UPA Government at the Centre and the Samajwadi Party (SP) government in the State should sort out the issue at the earliest so that and power supply could be made available to the people.
“The State Government should know that people cannot be taken for a ride. While some constituencies are provided with 24 hour power supply, the people living in other areas of the state are leading a very miserable life due to power crisis,” he said.
“Although we have Rajiv Gandhi Vidyutikaran Yojna in UP, but the State is reeling under severe power crisis,” Mishra added.
Besides, such schemes failed to work in the State because both the Centre and State could not chart out a strategy to meet the power demand during crisis situation.
“Fed up with power crisis, the people are taking to streets but there is no response from the government,” Mishra said and quoted the example of Kanpur where massive protests against power cuts were organised.
“We want UPA government to supply adequate power to UP and the state government to distribute it without any bias,” Mishra said. The Bharatiya Janata Party leader also came down heavily on the UPA Government for importing wheat at an exorbitant price saying the government had deliberately allowed the country to plunge into food crisis.
