Polling percentage in the first phase in Karnataka on Tuesday that saw elections in 15 Lok Sabha and 120 assembly segments, is much higher than the preliminary estimates, state Chief Electoral Officer Abhijit Dasgupta said on Wednesday.

Final compilation in all those constituencies, except Bidar and Koppal Lok Sabha constituencies and Binnypet Assembly segment, showed that the percentage was 62.90, he told reporters here.
Preliminary estimates had put the figure at around 55 per cent last evening.
Following are polling percentages (in brackets), Lok Sabha constituency-wise: Gulbarga (57.65), Raichur (58.18), Bellary (66.56), Davangere (67.89), Chitradurga (69.65), Tumkur (70.68), Chikkaballapura (70.61), Kolar (71.42), Kanakapura (57.45), Bangalore North 54.07, Bangalore South-except Binnypet Assembly segment (49.33), Bagalkot (65.12) and Bijapur (59.21).
Meanwhile, the remaining 13 Lok Sabha and 104 Assembly constituencies in the state would go the polls in the second and final phase on April 26, 2004.
