Polling underway in Delhi

Polling began in the seven LS seats in Delhi, where over 87.6 lakh voters are eligible to decide the electoral fate of 129 candidates.

Polling began in the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi, where over 87.6 lakh voters are eligible to decide the electoral fate of 129 candidates, including three Union Ministers and Delhi Speaker, at 9,042 polling stations.

Tight security arrangements have been made to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling with police arming its teams with more than 50 video cameras to record poll-related proceedings

The stalwarts in the fray include three-time winner Tourism Minister Jagmohan from New Delhi constituency where Delhi Assembly Speaker and Congress nominee Ajay Maken is posing a tough challenge to him.

Union Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma and Minister of State for Sports Vijay Goel are fighting it out against Congress stalwarts Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler in Outer Delhi and Delhi Sadar constituencies respectively.

Smriti Irani of BJP is pitted against Congress' Kapil Sibal in Chandani Chowk, while R K Anand (Cong) takes on V K Mahlotra (BJP) in South Delhi.

Congress' Krishna Tirath is locked in a straight contest with BJP's Anita Arya in Karol Bagh.

East Delhi witnesses a contest between Sandeep Dikshit (Cong) and Lal Bihari Tiwari (BJP).

Altogether 60,000 personnel of Delhi Police and central para-military forces will be deployed to ensure trouble-free balloting at 87,63,965 polling stations. The EC has appointed 21 senior officers as Election Observers in Delhi.
