Quiz show to take science to the masses
Imagine a lost kid en route his home from school. Baffled and scared, he reaches out for a small gadget in his pocket.
Science as a subject has always interested students. But when the term “students” is used, more often than not, it refers to those staying in metropolitan cities.
What about those staying on the outskirts of cities who do not have the facilities of a lavish lab? Doordarshan is coming to the rescue of such people through its new quiz show Chamatkar anchored by actor Sachin Khedekar.
The programme has participants from five zones — north, south, east west and central. Believing in the motto of ‘taking science to the masses’ the programme shall soon be converted into DVDs and distributed in the remote areas of the country besides being aired on Sundays at 9 am.
“Though Doordarshan reaches the whole country, we want to help the students in small schools as well. After all, science affects everyone,” says Khedekar of Astitva fame who was an environment engineer before he took to acting.
The show is produced by UTV who have tied up with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Vigyan Prasar. “In this show, we will show live experiments to make concepts clear for the people. Divided into three rounds, the idea behind this quiz show is to stay clear of a boring format,” explains Ronald D’Mello of UTV, adding that they have received applications from not just students, doctors but house wives as well who want to participate in the show.
