Rajni meets Vajpayee

Rajnikanth met Vajpayee at his arrival in Tamil Nadu to address a rally and requested him for speedy completion of the river-linking project.

Film star Rajnikant met Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on Wednesday to demand the speedy completion of the project to interlink rivers across the country.

Rajnikant, who met Vajpayee at the airport in Chennai when he arrived to campaign with Chief Minister J Jayalalitha in Tamil Nadu, also pledged his personal support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The film star requested Vajpayee to ensure the river linking project was implemented without delay to resolve Tamil Nadu's water problems.

Rajnikant also presented a memorandum on the issue to the Prime Minister.

Later, he told reporters that Vajpayee had sought his cooperation for the river-linking project. He said he had suggested to Vajpayee that the project be named the "Bhagiratha Yojana".

Rajnikant said he had promised to provide Rs 10 million for the project.
