Religious fervour marks Ravidas anniv
Several religious and cultural functions were organised at different places in Varanasi on Monday to mark the 593th birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas. Since Varanasi is the birthplace of Sant Ravidas, a large number of followers of the Sant reached here from different parts of country to congregate at Ravidas temple in Sirgovardhanpur where this sant was born in 1414.

The All India Adi Dharm Mission has been organising a series of cultural and religious functions, including bhajan, kirtan and recitation of Raidas-vani at Ravidas temple from Sunday. The main attraction of the function was a religious procession which was taken out from Maidageen area on Monday. More than 100 different attractive tableaux were displayed by different groups in this religious procession.The followers of Sant Ravidas from urban and rural areas of district assembled with their respective tableaux at the starting point of the religious procession in Maidageen area.
The procession was taken out with great enthusiasm and after passing Chauk, Gaudaulia, Madanpura, Sonarpura, Shivala, Durgakund, Lanka and BHU-gate, it reached the birthplace of Sant Ravidas in Sirgoverdhanpur.
A large number of people gathered along the road on the route of procession to have a glimpses of the attractive tableaux . The procession included elephants, camels, bullock-carts etc.
Religious fervour was evident during the procession. The followers of Sant Ravidas were seen dancing to the tune of vernacular and Hindi movie songs.
Normal traffic was thrown out of gear due to the procession. The district administration had ensured a elaborate security arrangement to avert any untoward incident during the procession.
