According to reports, Aruna Devi (72), mother of Lalit Agrawal, lived in a bungalow on Akatha-Baluwa Road in Sarnath area. There were a few servants and a gardener with her. Her sons live in separate houses in the same area.
Around 8 pm on Thursday, four miscreants scaled the boundary wall of the bungalow and held gardener Kishori at gunpoint. They forced him to open the main door. Thereafter, they entered the house and threatened Aruna Devi and the servants. They took the keys from Aruna Devi, and looted cash and gold ornaments from a safe and almirahs.
They fled after slamming shut the main door. The crime came to light when another servant came to the bungalow around 9 pm. Aruna Devi’s son Arun Agrawal lodged an FIR of dacoity with police.
Though the FIR said Rs 8,000 cash and some gold ornaments were looted, unofficial sources said miscreants decamped with cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees. No arrest was made when reports were last received.
Cashier shot at: A 26-year- old cashier of a private concern was shot at and injured seriously by two unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreants outside his office in Jagatganj area in Chetganj here on Friday.
The attackers fled the scene on their bike. The cause of attack has not been established yet. An FIR against unidentified persons has been lodged.
The injured, identified as Brijesh Vishwakerma, has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital where his condition is stated to be critical. Police launched a massive two-wheeler checking drive throughout the city to nab the fleeing miscreants but they could not be traced out.
According to information, Brijesh, originally a resident of Mirzapur district, had been living in Hanumapura area in Bhelupur. He had taken up the job of a cashier with a private concern at Jagatganj for last some time.
As he reached outside his office this morning and started getting down from his bike, meanwhile, two youths on another bike also neared him and one of them opened two shots on him.
The cashier after sustaining bullets slumped to the road, in the meantime, attackers fled the scene towards Teliabagh. Soon, the colleagues rushed the injured to the Singh Medical and Research Centre for treatment. The youth sustained two bullets in the stomach and chest.
Woman crushed to death: A 45-year-old married woman was crushed to death by a truck on the GT road in Lalpur Chatti village under the Mirzamurad police station on Friday. The driver of truck fled the scene leaving his vehicle near the spot while the cleaner was caught by the locals, who beat him up and handed over to police.
