The Culture Department has also questioned Nirala Srijan Peeth on some issue connected with Jain’s book release function organised recently. Principal Secretary, Tourism and Culture Swarnmala Rawla issued the notice to Jain on February 28.

‘As the director it was your duty to select participants (poets) and also to decide their honorarium. Not only you participated in the programme but also took honorarium of Rs 15,000. Why prior permission was not taken on this issue?’ asked the notice. The code of conduct of the department does not allow employees/officers to seek honorarium for any in-house function without prior permission, said the notice.

‘I have sent my reply to the Government,’ Jain told Hindustan Times. ‘I have been participating in Kavi Sammelans for the past ten years and have always showed honorariums received in my income tax return. I do not know why such queries were made,’ he added.
