Six arrested for circulating CDs criticising Centre, TN Govt

Six persons, including two Sri Lankan nationals, were arrested on Monday for circulating Compact Discs, contents of which criticised the Centre and the Tamil Nadu government for their alleged inaction on the Sri Lankan Tamils’ issue.

Six persons, including two Sri Lankan nationals, were arrested on Monday for circulating Compact Discs, contents of which criticised the Centre and the Tamil Nadu government for their alleged inaction on the Sri Lankan Tamils’ issue.

The CDs contained personalised attacks on some political parties and their leaders in the form of dialogues supporting the Eelam Tamils struggle, an official press release said.

It identified the arrested as Kabilan(45), Kamaladasan(38) both hailing from Jaffna in Sri Lanka, Divakaran(30), Sureshbabu
Kumar(36) Saravana Sundar(42) and Balasundaram(27).

The Lankan nationals, who had been staying in Chennai since 1984, had started a computer firm here five years back, the
release said, adding that the group had been writing data on CDs for circulation across the state.

A special team raided the firm following reports that Sri Lankan Tamils were making CDs with contents related to the issue and distributing them to create law and order problem.

Titles of the CD’s include “Eelam Tamils Independence Struggle and betrayed History”, “Vote for Whom”, “Tamil Eelam Betrayers”, “Puthiya Parasakthi”, “Seeman Manohara” and “Meendum Kannagi”.

“The arrests were made with a view to ensure peaceful conduct of the polls and maintain public harmony,” it said.

Cases under various sections of the IPC were registered against them, the release said, adding that the arrested were later lodged in Puzhal Central Prison.
