West Bengal-based six suspected Maoists including an accused of JMM MP Sunil Mahto murder case were arrested from Jobhi and Jamira village in naxal-hit Ghatsila sub-division, a senior police officer on Saturday said.
The arrest were made when the security personnel on long-range patrolling in naxal-affected area, they spotted them meeting in jungle near the villages, senior superintendent of police Akhilesh Kumar Jha told newsmen.
Addressing a press conference, he said they were reluctant to disclose their names and police seized naxal literatures, banners and posters from their possession, leading police to arrest them.
Among the arrested, Jamuna Singh alias Ila alias Jayanti, a resident of Patharchakri village under Belpahari police station of West Bengal, was allegedly involved in the JMM MP murder case in Baguria in March 2007.
The arrested persons have been identified as Nitai Das (resident of 24-paragana), Nityanand Thakur of Katwa, Burdwan, Suryadeo Singh of Belphari, Som Prakash Chakraborty of Nadia district and Prasanjit Chakraborty of Kolkata, Jha said.
Police also seized arms and ammunition from Jayanti.
JMM MP Sunil Mahto was gunned down by the Maoists while he was attending a concluding function of football match organized on Holi Festival in Baguria on 4th March, 2007.
