ST MICHAEL’S Academy scored a facile victory over Bhopal Division (under-19) in today’s outings of All India Mayank Chaturvedi Cricket Tournament being played at Old Campion Ground.
Captain of Bhopal Division, Murtaza Ali, won the toss and elected to bat first. But openers Salman Baig and Sohaib Iqbal failed to give a good start to their team. Sohaib got out on his individual score of only runs 4 when Bhopal Division’s total was 17.
Sushant Sharma, who replaced Sohaib, also failed to do much and was out to a good delivery of Suboor Baig. This was followed by a substantial partnership between captain Murtaza and Salman but before it could assume threatening proportions for the opposite side, Salman was clean bowled by Suboor Baig.
Zain Ansari, who came at the crease following fall of Salman’s wicket, was playing well but his captain Murtaza lost his wicket shortly afterwards. Bhopal Division’s team could never recover from there and was bowled out for 155. Zain remained the top scorer with his innings of 27.
For Saint Michael’s, Muqtadir and Suboor Baig claimed three wickets each while Pervezullah chipped in with two and Shahab Khan one.
In reply, Saint Michael’s reached the target for the loss of just four wickets. Aqueel Khan and Samir Qureshi, who opened the innings for Saint Michael’s, took the score to 28 before Aqueel Khan got out on his individual score of 17.
Samir played an attractive innings of 23 while Zuber Raza Khan remained not out on 33. Pervez and Faisal contributed 26 and 18 runs each. Saint Michael’s Muqtadirullah was adjudged man of the match.
