Speaking to reporters at Gandhi Bhawan here today, Yadav said the Congress party would not remain a mute spectator on the issue of increasing attacks on Christians and other minorities in the State. The Congress party, which was committed for the cause of secularism and religious freedom of all religions, will use all its forces to fight for the cause of the religious minorities in the State.

Alleging that the BJP Government-led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan is trying to disturb communal harmony in the State, the Congress State president said the main agenda and priority of the Chouhan Government is to attack the Christian and minority religious places in the State.

“The BJP Government’s priority is not to help the farmers or the poor people but to attack minority religious places,” Yadav said. He said there was not a single case of attack on other religious places during the long 10-year tenure of the Congress.

He said he had written a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh yesterday giving details about the attack on the minority community in the State by Hindu organisations ever since the BJP came to power in the State.

In his three-page letter, the Congress president has mentioned about 12 incidents of attack on religious places of minorities in the State. Expressing the party’s deep concern over the insecurity in minorities and deteriorating law and order situation in the State, the State Congress president urged the Prime Minister to take appropriate action in the matter.

Later, Yadav along with local party leaders including lone party MLA from Indore city Ashwin Joshi visited Kabitkhedi to get first-hand information regarding the recent attack on two pastors by some youths. Pastor Fr George Thomas and his wife Susamma narrated the incident to Yadav and also showed the injuries sustained by a youth Jojo in the incident.

The State Congress president assured the Christian community leaders present at the church that the Congress party will raise the issue in the State Assembly. Those who accompanied Subhash Yadav included State Mahila Congress president Shobha Oza, Sajjan Singh Verma, Tulsi Silawat, Kripa Shankar Shukla, Ujagar Singh, KK Mishra, Ballu Yadav and Iqbal Khan.
