Team India disappoints fans in Delhi

They came to the stadium with high hopes of seeing their side levelling the six-match series with a win in the final one-dayer, but were hugely disappointed by some mindless batting by the hosts as Pakistan clinched the series 4-2.

The die-hard cricket fans of the national capital, who braved sweltering heat all the day and adjusted to the tight security arrangements in place, could not have expected such a flop show from the Indians consisting of several bigs names in the world cricket.
The Kotla contest between India and Pakistan provided the perfect opportunity for the Delhiites, having deprived of an international match for the last three years, to come out and show their passion for the game. The last match held in New Delhi was between India and England in January 2002.
But the show by the home team came as a dampener who first let the opposition pile on 303 in 50 overs and then failed to put up even a fight.
After the initial doubts over the staging of the match, the game finally got the go ahead and since then there was no stopping for the cricket fans who, after a mad rush for the elusive tickets, thronged the stadium in full force to back their team's bid to square the six-match series.
The newly renovated stadium could accomodate just a little more than 28,000 spectators and there was not a single empty seat as the commoners as well a horde of VIPs and VVIPs joined forces to cheer the two teams.
"I had come to see my team. I am very very disappointed. I am repenting why I came to watch the match in the first place," said Rajat Misra a fan from North Delhi.
Similar disappointment was in store for scores of others who had come to the ground to make full use of the weekend.
