According to police reports, a 14-year-old girl allegedly hanged herself to death after her neighbour attempted to rape her in Anantpura police station area in Kota.

The girl, a class IX student committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling in her home on Sunday while her parents were away, station house officer of Anantpura police station, Amar Singh said.

The girl took the extreme step after her neighbour Raghuveer Meena (22) molested and attempted to rape her on finding her alone in her house, he said.

She raised alarm following which other neighbours reached there to rescue her, Singh said, adding the accused fled from the spot on seeing the crowd.

In a suicide note recovered from her room, the girl alleged that Raghuveer molested her and attempted to rape her and that she no longer wants to live, he said.

The body was handed over to her family members after postmortem, Singh said. On the complaint of her parents, a case has been lodged against Meena under various sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, he said.

The accused has not been arrested so far, however, teams have been formed to nab him, the SHO added.
