The death had caused tension in Khoonipur locality under Kotwali police station on Friday evening, when members of a particular community staged a road blockade with the body and shouted slogans. Following the incident, traders had pulled down their shutters. However, quick police intervention prevented the situation from taking an ugly turn. Provincial Armed Constabulary and Rapid Action Force personnel patrolled the area. On Saturday, Adityanath visited the locality to console the family members of the youth.

Adityanath blamed members of a particular community for the death of Kanhaya. He said they had killed the youth and thrown his body into a drain. He blamed the State Government’s “appeasement policy” for the incident.

He demanded Rs 5 lakh compensation for the parents of Kanhaya who was found dead under mysterious circumstances. According to reports, Kanhaya Lal (25), resident of Turha Tola in Ismailpur locality, was an employee with Laxmi Kirana Store in Khoonipur. The shop owner sent Kanhaya to his home on Thursday when a religious procession was taken out. But Kanhaya did not return home that night, raising doubts among members of his family that members of a particular community had killed Kanhaya over a minor dispute.
