Security forces on Wednesday foiled an attempt by militants to trigger explosions during Republic Day celebrations.

Forces recovered explosive devices in Poonch and Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.

Suspected militants had planted a one and half kg Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the road leading to the venue of the Republic Day celebration function - the Poonch higher secondary school - where minister of state for rural development Babu Singh will take salute on Thursday, they said.

During the sanitisation operation, security forces recovered the IED, just 100 meters away from the R-Day venue, sources said.

Similarly, troops also recovered an anti-tank mine, 3 IED detonators, 3 hand grenades and 40 rounds from Nali Kakora belt of Manajakote in Rajouri district this evening.

Anti-tank mine was planted on the roadside to trigger blast and target security forces or civilian vehicles on R-Day, they said.
