The report Kalyan Singh hints at rejoining BJP (November 16) makes a mockery of our political system. One-time friends Kalyan Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav are now bitter enemies. While the enmity has now left Singh politically stranded, it will also affect Yadav and the Samajwadi Party (SP) in the long run. Kalyan Singh had helped the SP corner the Lodh votebank in Uttar Pradesh in the past. But after Muslims stopped supporting the party, the SP decided to break its ties with Singh, who is now hoping to join the BJP. Much to the voters’ disappointment, recent developments in the SP are nothing but political opportunism at its best.
