Toll in Malda kid deaths rises to 14

With the death of another baby at Malda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH), the toll has reached 14 in the last four days. However, the unofficial figure is 20.

With the death of another baby at Malda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH), the toll has reached 14 in the last four days. However, the unofficial figure is 20.

A senior doctor at the hospital said, “We have controlled the deaths to a large extent in last 24 hours. Only one new born baby has died in this hospital in last 24 hours.

The baby was referred to MMCH from a peripheral hospital at a very critical stage.”

State horticulture minister and the president of MMCH’s patient welfare committee KN Chowdhury said, “After upgrading Malda district hospital as medical college the pressure of patients has increased very much. Not only patient from Murshidabad and Dinajpur are referred here but also patient from Bihar and Jharkhand are referred here.”
